Here’s a look at what you get for the $93 Amazon has the Immersion set listed for. The new “Immersion” set is the final release of EMI’s Why Pink Floyd…? campaign following similar releases of Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. The album marked the end of the 1970s for the British prog legends and was the beginning of the end of the band with Waters assuming dominance over the writing process and firing keyboardist Richard Wright during its recording. It was a depressing rock opera conceived as more than just an album, but as a work of art complete with a theatrical concert featuring giant inflatable puppets acting out scenes, animation by Gerald Scarfe and a giant wall erected on stage in front of the band (Winnipeggers will get to see the show for themselves when Waters brings it to the MTS Centre on May 31 and June 1). The second album finds him in a fragile mental state behind the wall where he takes drugs to get through the show and imagines he is a fascist dictator before submitting to a trial where he must tear down the wall and rejoin society. For those who don’t know: the first album details the death of his father in the Second World War, his relationship with his overbearing mother and collapse of his marriage, which all add more bricks to his wall. The concept album - released on double vinyl in 1979 - tells the story of rock star Pink who builds an emotional wall around him to keep the outside world away. THE Wall was more than just an album for Pink Floyd bassist/vocalist Roger Waters: it was part autobiography and a metaphor for the alienation he was feeling from his audience.
